VAN-TASTIC VAUXHALL RETAILERS PLEDGE SUPPORT TO CITY HARVEST

Richmond – Two British-built Vauxhall Vivaro vans have been handed over to City Harvest, a London-based charity that provides food, which would have otherwise been disposed of, to homeless and vulnerable people.

The two vehicles, provided by three London Vauxhall retailer groups (Now, Tony Le Voi and GO Vauxhall) will help prevent thousands of Londoners from going hungry each day and stop perfectly edible, healthy food from being thrown away.

City Harvest will use the refrigerated vans to collect nutritious, surplus food from all segments of the food industry and deliver to organisations such as homeless shelters and soup kitchens that provide hearty, healthy meals to those that need it most.

Currently City Harvest delivers six tonnes of food to more than 100 charities. Other supporters of the charity include Marks and Spencer, Morrisons, Charlie Bigham’s, Nandos and Whole Foods.

The two Luton-built Vivaro 1.6-litre CDTi L2H1 panel vans, with temperature-controlled conversions by Cold Consortium, were handed over on Friday at the Vineyard community centre in Richmond, one of the locations to benefit from the service.

Adding to the charity spirit, the vans were liveried free of charge by Kent-based vehicle signwriting specialists Motormode.

“The generous donations from Now, Tony Le Voi and GO will make an enormous difference to those facing hunger across London,” said Laura Winningham, CEO of City Harvest.

“These Vauxhall vans will enable City Harvest to deliver thousands of nutritious meals each week to people in need and rescue tonnes of perfectly good food from being wasted. We look forward to this partnership and working together in the community to make a daily impact.”

“We are very pleased to offer these British-built Vivaro vans to City Harvest and contribute to the communities we serve,” said Bob Quirk, Managing Director at GO Vauxhall.
